Google Pixel vs Apple iPhone 7: What’s the Difference

Google announced the Pixel and Pixel XL at its October event, replacing the Nexus line-up with a couple of premium and desirable devices running pure Android. The Pixel is the smaller of the two smartphones and its price tag puts it in iPhone territory. The question is, how does it compare to Apple’s latest model?Read on for the differences and similarities between the Google Pixel and Apple’s iPhone 7.

Google Pixel vs Apple iPhone 7

Google Pixel vs Apple iPhone 7: Design
-Both premium designs with fingerprint sensors
-iPhone 7 smaller, slimmer, lighter and waterproof
-Pixel has headphone jack and USB Type-C

The Google Pixel and Apple iPhone 7 look different as you would expect, but both offer solid, premium, well-built designs. The Pixel opts for a combination of aluminium and glass, with a fingerprint sensor on the rear, while the iPhone 7 is all about aluminium and places its fingerprint sensor within the Home button on the front. The iPhone 7 is water and dust resistant to IP67, while the Pixel is only IP53, meaning it cannot be submerged.

The headphone jack is removed on the iPhone 7 in favour of stereo speakers positioned either side of the Lightning port, while the Pixel has down-firing speakers either side of the USB Type-C port, but it keeps the headphone jack intact at the top. There are no physical buttons on the front of Pixel.

The Pixel measures 143.8 x 69.5 x 8.6mm and weighs 143g, while the iPhone 7 is smaller, lighter and slimmer, measuring 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1mm and weighing 138g.

Google’s phone comes in Very Silver, Quite Black and Really Blue, though the latter is not coming to the UK. Apple’s phone comes in Rose Gold, Gold, Silver, Black and Jet Black.

Google Pixel vs Apple iPhone 7: Display
-Pixel has larger, crisper display
-iPhone 7 has 3D Touch for more functionality
-Pixel uses AMOLED, iPhone 7 uses LCD

The Google Pixel has a 5-inch display with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution for a pixel density of 441ppi. It is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and it uses AMOLED technology, which should mean rich and vibrant colours.

The Apple iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inch LCD display with a 1334 x 750 resolution, resulting in a pixel density of 326ppi. Based on the numbers, that would mean the Pixel will offer sharper and crisper images, but the iPhone 7’s display is very good, even if the resolution is slightly lower than its competition.

The iPhone 7 also has 3D Touch, which is Apple’s version of a pressure sensitive display. Users will get access to different features and functions based on the force with which they press.

Google Pixel vs Apple iPhone 7: Camera
-Both have 12MP rear sensors, but iPhone has wider aperture
-Pixel has higher resolution front camera, but iPhone again has wider aperture
-iPhone 7 has optical image stabilisation

The Google Pixel has a 12.3-megapixel rear camera offering an aperture of f/2.0 and 1.55µm pixels. There is video stabilisation, phase detection autofocus and laser detection autofocus all on board, along with a dual-LED flash.

The Apple iPhone 7 also has a 12-megapixel rear camera with a slightly wider aperture of f/1.8. It has optical image stabilisation and phase detection autofocus, as well as a quad-LED flash.

In terms of the front-facing snappers, the Pixel has an 8-megapixel f/2.4 sensor with 1.4µm pixels, while the iPhone 7 has a 7-megapixel f/2.2 sensor with a Retina Flash.

Google Pixel vs Apple iPhone 7: Hardware
-Both quad-core processors, but Pixel has more RAM support
-Both available in 32GB and 128GB models, but iPhone also comes in 256GB
-Pixel has bigger battery capacity

The Google Pixel and the Apple iPhone 7 both feature a quad-core processor under their hoods. The Pixel opts for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 with 4GB of RAM support, while the iPhone 7 features Apple’s A10 Fusion chip and embedded M10 motion coprocessor and there is 3GB of RAM support.

The Pixel is available in 32GB and 128GB storage options and the iPhone 7 is available in 32GB, 128GB and 256GB options. Neither device offers microSD storage expansion.

In terms of battery, the Pixel has a 2770mAh capacity, while the iPhone 7 is thought to be quite a bit smaller at 1960mAh.

Google Pixel vs Apple iPhone 7: Software
-Pixel runs vanilla Android
-iPhone 7 runs iOS
-Both have personal assistants

The Google Pixel runs on Android 7.1 Nougat and it features Google Assistant built-in, accessed via a long press of the home button in the new launcher. It’s a pure Android experience so it doesn’t feature software bloatware like a Samsung or Sony for example.

It brings with it all the latest features Google has to offer through Android and for those of you who are Google users and have Google accounts, you should get a seamless experience.

The Apple iPhone 7 runs on iOS 10, which brings with it all the latest features Apple has to offer. In terms of personal assistant, you get Siri, who is accessed via a long press of the physical Home button on the front of the device.

For those of you who have Macs or use other Apple devices, the iPhone 7 will deliver a seamless experience across all your devices.

Google Pixel vs Apple iPhone 7: Price
-Both start at £599

Both the Google Pixel and Apple iPhone 7 start at £599 for the 32GB model. Add another £100 and you’ll be able to get your hands on a 128GB model of either.

The iPhone 7 is also then offered in a 256GB model, as we mentioned, which costs a further £100 for a price of £799.

Google Pixel vs Apple iPhone 7: Conclusion
The Google Pixel and Apple iPhone 7 are very closely matched in terms of specs and price.

The Pixel trumps the iPhone in terms of display size and resolution, RAM, battery capacity and front-facing camera resolution. The iPhone trumps the Pixel in terms of physical size, waterproofing, display functionality, storage options, and we know it has a fantastic camera, while the Pixel still needs to prove itself.

Ultimately, the decision between these two devices will come down to which design you prefer and which platform you prefer. Both are solid in their builds and likely to be solid in their performance too. We will update this feature when we have reviewed the Pixel in full.

With Pixel Phones, Google Requires a New Retail Strategy

Google unveiled new hardware from Pixel smartphones and smart speakers to wireless routers on Tuesday. It was a year-long odyssey that involved design, supply chain negotiations and the search for a manufacturing partner.

Now the Alphabet Inc. unit must grapple with the equally daunting challenge of getting the gadgets to consumers. It has a history of retail strategies that either struggled or never got off the ground, according to people familiar with the company’s retail efforts. What’s more, it’s inexperienced dealing with returns and recycling. And unlike rival Apple Inc., the company lacks its own stores where it can showcase hardware as it pleases and instead relies on other companies’ in-store displays.

google-pixl

This time, the stakes are higher because the latest gadgets are vehicles for Google’s digital assistant, a key product that is chasing Amazon.com Inc.’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri.

“We view go-to-market as a clear hurdle to wide acceptance, which will require investments in brand, marketing and distribution to overcome,” UBS analyst Eric Sheridan wrote in a note to investors.

Google is selling the new Pixel phones at Verizon Communications Inc. and Best Buy Co. stores in the U.S., via its own online store, a temporary physical store in New York City and through its wireless service Project Fi. It’s working with a small number of other wireless carriers and retailers in countries including Germany and India. Google Home, the new speaker, is available at Best Buy, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Target Corp. stores, in addition to Google’s online store.

Cutting distribution deals with a handful of carriers and retailers isn’t enough, according to Forrester Research analyst Thomas Husson. “Google will have to up its customer-service game and do many more distribution partnerships,” he said.

Many of Google’s past efforts at selling hardware have fizzled. When the company started its Nexus brand in 2010 it planned to market the phones online only, but sales never took off. About 200,000 of the first Nexus model sold, short of Google’s target of several million units, according to a person who worked on the device.

Then there was Android Silver. Kicked off some time in 2014, the internal project was designed to sell high-end Android handsets with partners to compete with Apple. Google set up a retail lab for the effort, claiming an entire building near its Mountain View, California headquarters, according to former employees. But it never got off the ground. Nikesh Arora, Google’s sales chief at the time, drove the initiative. When he left in July 2014, Android Silver was shelved. One former Google executive called it a boondoggle.

The former Googlers didn’t want to be identified discussing private information. A Google spokeswoman declined to comment.

Apple Envy

Such experiments are a contrast to Apple stores that are the envy of the retail industry. Apple considers the iPhone in terms of the product’s complete life cycle, from leaving the factory to when customers stop using the device. Apple offers a recycling program through physical and online stores.

Google’s new smartphone unit approached potential wireless carrier partners early this year, according to a person familiar with the situation. Some carriers peppered Google executives with questions about handling phone returns and technical support, the person said. At the time, Google did not appear ready to take on these aspects of the phone hardware business, according to this person.

Google executives on the hardware team say the company is on a “journey,” gaining experience and capabilities with each smartphone generation. And Apple only began touting the iPhone’s full life cycle after a few generations.

Google Event

On Tuesday, as a Google event began in San Francisco, new hardware chief Rick Osterloh reassured the audience that the company was serious about the move. “We’re in it for the long run,” he said.

About nine months after initial talks with carriers, Google rolled out its flavor of technical support: Pixels have built-in chat support where customer-service reps can take over smartphone screens to identify problems.

Google will be responsible for returns and recycling and is building a supply chain that can re-absorb faulty and rejected devices, Osterloh said in a recent interview.

Osterloh will be partly judged by how many devices Google sells, a contrast to the Nexus program which showcased Android features for other handset makers to adopt. But the executive was still cagey about the company’s sales aspirations.

“In markets where we do business, we’re definitely going to want meaningful share,” he said. “But it’s highly unlikely that the primary driver will be to be in every market with as high as possible volume.”

Google still sees software as its edge, rather than retail distribution and customer service. The company spent more time on Tuesday talking about the digital assistant baked into its new gadgets, and how they work together.

If Google can get millions of people relying on its assistant, the company may be able to compete with Apple’s devices, according to Brian Blau, an analyst at Gartner.

“The AI assistant will give them something that Apple has enjoyed for many years: Lock-in to the system,” he said.

The “critical point” technology news website (TheVerge) quoted a spokesman for the American Southwest Airlines reported, the airline’s flight number 994 aircraft on the morning of 5 fire, the cause is a Samsung Note7 mobile phone smoke fire, but fortunately all the passengers and crew to evacuate, caused no casualties.

The plane was flying to Maryland from Kentucky, Baltimore and Louisville, the passengers, but has yet to take off when in danger. According to the passengers from Indiana, Brian Green recalled, he boarded the plane to comply with flight attendants that shut down power Samsung Note7 mobile phone, but suddenly smoke in her mobile phone.

American Broadcasting Company reported that the mobile phone explosion was not light, so that a fire team can not immediately identify the phone model. U.S. Federal Aviation Administration issued a statement later confirmed that a Samsung mobile phone triggered this fire, and revealed that the investigation is underway.

Is just the Same New Mobile Phone

Green accept the “critical point” website interview with reporters, he in September 21st replaced the new Samsung Note7 mobile phone from a shop owned Att Corporation, has since been using wireless charger for mobile phone charging.

Green’s wife Sara told the Reuters reporter, her husband received about half a month ago, the Samsung Corp sent a message to send Note7 mobile phone recall notice, so the replacement of a phone with the same.

The “critical point” website published a picture of Green’s mobile phone box. Photos show that there is a black box on the box logo, which means that the phone for the replacement of the new phone, is not yet to be recalled the old phone.

For the protection of privacy reasons, photos to the phone’s mobile devices international identification code (IMEI, that is, the phone’s unique identification number) to fight the mosaic. China has undergone more than Samsung Note7 and Samsung mobile phone burning loss event, released in September 29th on the official website of the statement that “part of the problem of product testing results at present initially showed no signs of recovery, the internal battery burning loss…… The burning loss of the site is not in the battery area, the battery has not found a significant damage of the traces, the presumption of the external thermal shock caused by the phone burn”.

For 5 U.S. aircraft fire incident, Samsung said in a statement: before we get back to this phone, we can not confirm the incident involving a new Note7 phone. We are working with the relevant authorities and Southwest Airlines to retrieve the phone and find out the cause of the fire.”

Goodbye, Nexus! Hello, Pixel Phone

The Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL are OFFICIAL.

Google has just officially announced its much-anticipated Pixel phones; the Pixel and Pixel XL. We’re live at Google’s London UK event, mirroring the main one taking place in San Francisco, US, where the firm unwrapped the new Android 7.1 Nougat devices which will apparently usurp Google’s long-standing Nexus series.

This launch has been a long time coming and a lot has been said prior to today about Google’s plans for its mobile division, the decision to axe its Nexus brand, and how it will differentiate its Pixel phones from other Android phones available from its hardware partners.

Well, there’s quite a lot to get through, so let’s get the basics out of the way first. This is what Google’s new Pixel phones looks like. First, the Google Pixel:

pixel phone

And now we’ll take a quick look at the specs for both the Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL:Google Pixel Specs & Hardware

Dimensions: 143.8 x 69.5 x 8.6 mm
Weight: 143g
Display: 5in 1920 x 1080 pixels
Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 quad-core 2.1GHz
GPU: Adreno 530
RAM: 4GB
Storage: 32GB or 128GB
MicroSD: Up To 256GB
Rear Camera: 12MP
Front Camera: 8MP
Software: Android 7.1 Nougat
Battery: 2770mAh Quick Charge
Colours: Silver, Black
Google Pixel XL Specs & Hardware

Dimensions: 154.7 x 75.7 x 8.6mm
Weight: 168g
Display: 5.5in 2560 x 1440 pixels
Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 quad-core 2.1GHz
GPU: Adreno 530
RAM: 4GB
Storage: 32GB or 128GB
MicroSD: Up To 256GB
Rear Camera: 12MP
Front Camera: 8MP
Software: Android 7.1 Nougat
Battery: 3450mAh Quick Charge
Colours: Silver, Black

As you see, the duo are for the most part identical except for the physical dimensions, the display size and resolution, and the presence of a higher milliamp-hour rated battery cell in the Pixel XL. Design-wise it’s what we already saw in the leaks ahead of the launch; an aesthetic which does indeed pull in some reminders from the Nexus heritage in terms of overall shape.

“With Pixel,” said Brian Rakowski, Google’s VP of Product Management, “we obsessed over every detail, from the industrial design to the user experience. We carefully sculpted the surfaces of the phone, and rounded the edges to make it easy to grip. We used 2.5D Corning® Gorilla Glass 4 on the front display and back glass to accent the aerospace grade aluminum body. The glass on the back also features Pixel Imprint, our fingerprint sensor, which is placed on the back of the phone where your finger expects it. You can even swipe it to access your notifications. And no matter what you’re using your phone for, you’ll need a battery that lasts all day and charges fast — up to seven hours in 15 minutes.”

Google is pretty pleased with the Pixel’s cameras. Here’s what it said at launch:

“With a best-ever 89 DxoMark Mobile score, Pixel’s camera lets you take stunning photos in low light, bright light or any light. #Nofilter needed. Catch action shots as they happen with Smartburst, which takes a rapid-fire sequence of shots. Use Lens Blur to achieve shallow depth of field and bokeh effects, making your subject pop. And capture dramatic landscapes or make faces glow with new exposure controls.”

The main distinguishing feature is that two-tone back panel design, some seem to love it, others loathe it; we’re fairly neutral to be honest, it’s not hideous but it doesn’t make us go “hot damn I need that sexy phone in my life!”, either.

Both Pixel and Pixel XL run the latest Android 7.1 Nougat build which is packed with software features, many of which we’ve already seen aboard 7.0 Nougat on the existing Nexus line-up. However, there are some new capabilities, as well as specific and unique tailored features baked-into the Pixel phones.

First With Google Assistant

A solid portion of Google’s keynote was dedicated to Google Assistant, the search giant’s first steps towards a personal AI for your home. Assistant will power Google’s Home hub device, which is coming later this year, but it can also be found inside both Pixel phones.

The idea with Assistant is that you can talk to it as you would a person. Simply say, “OK, Google,” and Assistant will be on hand to do your bidding, whether playing music, reading emails or regaling you with the morning’s headlines.

“Ask it for a brief update on your day or to play a video on YouTube,” said Google. “Look up traffic on the way home from work or when the nearest pharmacy closes. You can even say “show me my camping photos with Andrew” and it’ll instantly display the photos you’re looking for. Your Assistant can also offer help with what’s on-screen in any app. So if your friend texts you to meet up at a new restaurant, you can just say “navigate there’.”

Make no mistake, software like Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa will be the new battlefield tech companies do battle on. The implications of software like Alexa and Assistant are enormous; they’ll appear inside phones, computers, cars and even white goods eventually, I imagine. This trend will be huge once consumers catch on and locking Assistant inside the Pixel phones is just one of the USPs Google is pushing with its new phone operation.

First With Google DayDream

The Pixel phones are also the first Android phones to support Google’s VR platform, Daydream. It also announced its Daydream View VR headset, which is designed to be the most comfortable VR headset in its class. But more on this tomorrow, once we’ve had time to gestate EVERYTHING that Google discussed tonight (or, this morning, if you’re in the US).

vr headset

Google is keen to push the professional BYOD angle this time with added security and productivity features intended for business users.

It also retains some other features we’re familiar with, but one feature in particular the Google Assistant personal assistant, has been much upgraded from the last time we saw it at Google I/O 2016. As before, it responds to voice commands and ties in with Google Now, as well as Google’s other services such as Calendar, Mail, and Maps, but it offers a much more detailed interaction thanks to Google’s AI developments. Google talked a lot about how AI is the “next big thing” for its devices and software development, and Google Assistant seems to be a lynchpin of this.

As well as features typical of virtual assistants such as Siri, things like scheduling appointments, activating searches, and asking questions, Google Assistant was demonstrated offering in-depth conversations and learning about you and what’s important in your life.

“The assistant is conversational—an ongoing two-way dialogue between you and Google that understands your world and helps you get things done,” says Google. “It makes it easy to buy movie tickets while on the go, to find that perfect restaurant for your family to grab a quick bite before the movie starts, and then help you navigate to the theater. It’s a Google for you, by you.”

“The assistant is an ambient experience that will work seamlessly across devices and contexts. So you can summon Google’s help no matter where you are or what the context. It builds on all our years of investment in deeply understanding users’ questions.”

The Google Pixel Phone is Exactly what you Wanted

There’s a curious dynamic in human psychology whereby as things improve, we sometimes complain about them even more. Respected international philanthropist Mo Ibrahim noted this with respect to Africa in an interview this week: as governance and the provision of healthcare have improved across the continent, people’s perception of the quality of those services has declined. Basically, expectations are outrunning actual progress, and there’s no better example of this in the tech world than Google’s brand new Pixel phone.

google pixel phone

Let’s look at where we started this year. Samsung had a great phone in the Galaxy S6, Google had a terrific phone in the Nexus 6P, and that was pretty much the full extent of viable iPhone competition from the premium Android smartphone makers. LG, HTC, Sony, and a litany of others were throwing devices at a wall of uninterested consumers, but all failed to make anything stick. Where we were this January was not a good place for anyone looking for aggressive mobile innovation. Google’s Nexus was great, but it was phablet-sized and available through limited channels, leaving only the Apple-Samsung duopoly for most people to choose from.

Google’s Trying to Assemble and Distill the Best of Android,Hardware and Software, into One

Android phones have, for a few years now, been consistently beating Apple’s iPhone to new hardware breakthroughs and innovations. The problem is that they’ve been scattered across brands, and no single company has been able to really put the whole package together. You might want Huawei fingerprint scanner, Sony’s camera sensor, Samsung’s display, and HTC design in your ideal Android phone. You’d certainly want the Nexus peace of mind about getting long-term OS updates. And that’s where Google comes in.

Every year, the recurring complaint with HTC phones is that they might be the best in the world if only they ran stock (which is to say Google’s best version of) Android and had high-quality cameras. Well, that’s exactly what the Google Pixel is. It’s a new Android smartphone, built by the highly experienced team at HTC, augmented with Google’s best Android, Google’s timely and longer-lasting software support, and a camera good enough to surpass every other mobile camera on DxOMark. Now, I don’t invest too much trust in such benchmarks, but this paints a promising picture for the Pixel’s photo-taking capabilities.

Google’s Presentation was Far Less Polished than the Phones Themselves

If earlier this summer you were to offer me an HTC 10 with a better camera, nicer Android interface, and the reassurance that Google itself would be doing everything within its power to make that device a success, I’d have been elated. So why am I not feeling quite so thrilled today? Because the way we frame things, the way we talk about them, matters.

One problem for Google is that the Pixel’s appearance didn’t so much leak as pour out onto the online world during the month of September. Apple knows the challenges of stirring excitement about an already familiar design, and it tries to do so with flashy manufacturing videos voiced by the dulcet tones of chief designer Jony Ive. Google didn’t go in for any such glamorizing of its new devices, and consequently the Pixel felt almost stale by the time it made its formal debut.

We also keep obsessing about Google’s overall strategy, who the company is targeting, and the minute spec comparisons against alternatives like the water-resistant Galaxy S7, which Samsung also endows with a microSD card slot. Here’s a newsflash: the Galaxy S7 is a kickass phone, and so is the iPhone 7, and there’s nothing at all preventing a third phone from sitting alongside them in the premium price bracket. Maybe you’ll like the feel and ergonomics of the Pixel better, or maybe you’ll find its camera more reliable than the others. Google doesn’t need to win a spec race to have a successful smartphone on its hands, and the mobile market is big enough to sustain more than two great options.

The Pixel is a Vessel for Google Assistant, whose Benefits are yet to be Established

Context is, of course, important, but sometimes it helps to take a step back and simply appreciate how far and how fast technology has advanced. Some of us are preemptively questioning and writing off a device backed by the considerable might of Google just because it doesn’t have anything to immediately wow us. Fast performance, aluminum unibody design, a high-definition AMOLED display, phase-detect and laser autofocus systems, fast and reliable fingerprint sensors… we’re taking all of these things as easy and automatic. But if they are, what sort of wild-eyed additional spec bump would have satisfied us that the Pixel is a suitably advanced device?

I understand how the Pixel, assembled from off-the-shelf components and exhibiting no radical departure from existing forms and designs, can seem underwhelming. But let’s not forget that this phone’s greatest advantage and uniqueness will come from the software within it – Google spent more time talking up its Google Assistant software than any individual hardware product at yesterday’s event. So it’s certainly too early to pass any definitive judgment on the Pixel, other than to declare that its existence is a positive sign for the Android ecosystem.

HTC used to be a legitimate competitor to Samsung at the top of the Android pile, but that position has lapsed and we need a new contender to keep Apple and Samsung honest at the premium end of the market. Google’s invasion of that space is exciting, and the Pixel itself – when stripped of our constantly speeding expectations and preconceptions – is a highly advanced device with which Google can begin to disrupt the status quo.

We asked and asked, for many years, to see Google get serious about building and designing its own smartphones. The Pixel isn’t everything we wanted, but it is definitely the device and strategy we’ve been demanding from Google for so long. And just like the enigmatic Google Assistant, this new initiative of Google acting as a hardware designer and builder is likely to only grow better with more time and experience.

iPhone 7 Plus vs. DSLR: Is Apple’s new portrait mode as impressive as it seems

When Apple unveiled its new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus earlier this month at its bug press conference in San Francisco, it was immediately clear that the larger iPhone 7 Plus model is the star of the show this year. Both new phones are impressive, of that there is little doubt. But the bigger iPhone packs a class-leading new dual camera setup that is arguably the best smartphone camera the world has ever seen.

iphone7 vs dslr

Among the new features shown off by Apple was a “portrait mode” setting that creates a “bokeh” effect on photos similar to what you might see in photos captured by a DSLR. In fact, Apple has mentioned DSLR cameras a few times when discussing the new iPhone 7 Plus camera. Is it fair to mention Apple’s new dual lens camera system in the same breath as a DSLR, or is Apple just overhyping its latest iPhone? It’s time to find out.

First of all, let’s briefly recap the nifty new tech Apple used in its iPhone 7 Plus camera. In a nutshell, the phone includes a standard 12-megapixel wide-angle camera and a second 56mm telephoto camera positioned right next to it. This accomplishes two main things: first, the user can tap a zoom button to switch to the telephoto lens as the primary camera, which effectively provides 2x optical zoom on a smartphone camera. That in itself is pretty awesome, but Apple’s upcoming iOS 10.1 update also includes a new feature called portrait mode.

Portrait mode allows the user to capture a photo that uses the wide-angle lens as the primary lens, but also integrates depth data from the secondary telephoto lens to keep the subject in focus while blurring the background. The resulting photo features the appearance of a photo that was captured by a DSLR camera. The question is, does the quality of these portrait mode photos actually approach DSLR quality or is this just a gimmick?

The answer, it would appear, lies somewhere in the middle. Portrait mode is hardly just a gimmick, but the quality of photos captured by the iPhone 7 Plus doesn’t really compare to the quality of photos taken on a DSLR camera.

Reddit user “xenonsupra” posted a comparison shot that does a good job of illustrating the differences in a single pair of pictures.

Here’s a shot captured by the iPhone 7 Plus with portrait mode (beta) enabled:

1

And here’s the same shot from a Nikon D800:

nikon d800

The difference is significant — check out both full-size images at this link.

There’s no question that the photo from the 7 Plus is impressive, but there’s simply no way to achieve DSLR levels of clarity, color reproduction and light in a tiny little smartphone camera module. The iPhone 7 Plus gets closer than any phone camera has before it, but the technology still isn’t quite there.

Booking a ride on Lyft or Uber now gets simpler thanks to Siri. You don’t even need to access the ride-hailing apps! Simply instruct Siri to “Book me an Uber” or “Order a Lyft.”

If you ask Siri to book an Uber, it will follow up and ask you which category you prefer, UberGo or UberX. Once you make your preference clear, Siri detects your location and alerts you of the nearest available cab as well as the estimated fare to your destination. You can then confirm the booking request or cancel it.

Just ensure that the Uber or Lyft app is updated to the latest version that supports iOS 10!

3. Retrieve Photos Easily
This feature is also pretty handy, especially if you find it annoying to sift through realms and realms of images in your photo gallery just to locate a particular snapshot.
Siri now makes life easier and is able to search for a picture from a particular date on iOS 10. For example, if you want Siri to seek out a picture taken on your birthday in March, simply issue the voice command “Show me photos from March 11.” It really is that easy! No more scrolling through a massive library!

That’s not all. You can even instruct Siri to look up images from “last week” or “yesterday” or even “last month.” You can even issue commands to find videos in your photo library.

We know we said top 3 features in the passages above, but there are more funny features you can extra focus on.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Catching Fire Accident

The Port St. Lucie Police Department released this video of a car fire on Sept. 13. The driver told investigators he was charging his Samsung Galaxy Note 7 when it burst into flames. How could this have happened? Simple: your phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 — and it’s one of over a hundred that have spontaneously burst into flames.

samsung note 7 catch fire

Part 1:Why Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Phone are Catching Fire

After 35 reported incidents of overheating smartphones worldwide, Samsung made the unprecedented decision to recall every single one of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphones sold. That’s said to be 1 million of the 2.5 million that were manufactured. (Since the recall was first announced, the number of explosive Note 7s has nearly quadrupled.)The company says it’s stopped all sales and shipments of the Note 7 and is working with government agencies and cellular carriers around the world to provide refunds and exchanges for the phone.

In every country, the message is the same: return your Samsung Galaxy Note 7 now, just in case something bad might happen to you.

The Note 7 battery fiasco is a huge black eye for Samsung, made worse by the fact that it’s playing out just as the company’s archrival, Apple, is releasing its new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

But how bad is it, really? What causes a phone to explode this way, and why this specific Samsung phone?

Here’s what we know about Samsung’s battery woes.

Why didn’t the phones catch fire immediately?

When Sadoway explains these theories, one thing doesn’t seem to add up. Today’s cell phone batteries generally charge faster (and get hotter) when they’re first plugged into the wall, not at the end when they’re trickle-charging the last few percent to reach their maximum capacity.

But these Note 7 phones didn’t explode right away. In practically every reported instance of a Note 7 catching fire or exploding, it happened after the phone was plugged in and left charging, sometimes overnight.

Then, there’s the little matter of how Samsung plans to make these phones safer — by issuing a firmware update that keeps the Galaxy Note 7 from charging to more than 60 percent of its full capacity. How could that possibly help, if things heat up the moment a phone is plugged into the wall?

Sadoway has a theory — albeit one without proof. What if only part of the battery was squished improperly, so that the phone couldn’t tell when it was 100 percent charged, and kept on charging the cell?

When lithium ion batteries are continually trickle charged, the lithium ions can start to cover the surface of the negative contact in a coating of lithium metal through a process called “plating.” And in extreme conditions, that lithium metal can form tiny spikes (called “dendrites”) that can poke right through the separator, creating — you guessed it — a short circuit.

That would seem to line up with the “variations in tension” Samsung says it found inside the defective battery cells.

“My guess is by backing off to 60 percent charge, they’ll be well below the threshold where these things happen,” says Sadoway. “Imagine we’re trying to fill our gas tank, we don’t have a really good regulator, and we don’t want to spill the gas all over our shoes. We want to make sure we’re cutting off the flow well before this thing gets to overflow conditions.”

Samsung didn’t immediately respond when asked for comment on the theory.

But VR how to play? Even giants are exploring, VR-dimensional (Micro Signal: qqtechvr) Release giant research report series, large companies may be able to sort out the layout, peeking out the future trend of VR industry.

Sure enough, at the annual Apple the most heavy new fall conference, the most popular this year, VR and AR, Apple said nothing, and the only one able to catch the edge of the AR, is the second-generation Apple Watch introduces AR game Pokenman Go.

But no mention does not mean that Apple VR, AR did not feel. Apple CEO Cook told the “Washington Post” interview, he said: “I think AR is very interesting, is a core technology, we put a lot of effort in this regard.”

According to “Financial Times” reported earlier this year, hundreds of Apple employees already in the development of AR and VR technology, but compared to Microsoft, Google, Samsung and other giants have mature products come out, Apple has apparently behind.

Big VR research report series fifth dimension concerns apples, take a look at this world’s most valuable company How VR, AR, iPhone sales are declining to solve the dilemma.

The exposure description can be found in patent documents, this device is a relatively similar optical equipment, it is a phone can be placed within the framework of its own, and use the phone screen placed in front of the user’s device, wherein the user eyes exists between the phone screen and optical assembly, the image on the screen is used to receiving phone. AR is the focus of Apple, perhaps put it into the car

For example, AR screen can be mounted to the windshield, the windshield can display the map position information and security information, and even can also display other data-car entertainment and communication.

Especially Apple’s acquisition this year Flyby Media, more verify this assertion. Flyby Media technologies are related to the object 3D motion tracking, it is being applied to the field of indoor positioning and navigation, and this area is also very interested in Apple.

Flyby Media will be cutting-edge computer vision, inertial sensing, and positioning and navigation technology, to understand the physical relationship between smart phones and other devices with its surroundings. Flyby Media technology Apple maps are also very useful and can help in a crowded shopping malls and other places to pinpoint their location.

apple-AR-VR

Flyby Media claims its technology can be used for indoor positioning and navigation, UAV automatic navigation, unmanned vehicles. You know, out of VR and AR, driverless cars of Silicon Valley giants are pursued cutting-edge products, but Apple seems to want to AR and unmanned vehicles together.

summary
Apple on the layout in the field of VR and AR, not many can say, after all, Apple never released a progress in this area, we are just by virtue of patent acquisition to guess.

Apple does not always like to do the first batch of new technology early adopters, but the user experience is very good to come up with the best products in the market existing product categories, relying on Apple’s brand power of large-scale occupation of the market, like the iPhone year .

Apple probably waiting for an opportune time, when the market is relatively mature and other re-entry, but the question is: how much time is left to Apple? After all, the iPhone has two consecutive quarters of declining sales.

The report also pointed out, Samsung Display (only hyperbolic screen manufacturers) have already set up both 5.1 and 5.5 inches screen size.

Hyperbolic screen has been equipped in two models of Galaxy S series phones, namely the 2015 Galaxy S6 edge, as well as the 2016 Galaxy S7 edge.

After S6 edge release, the demand greatly exceeded expectations, unfortunately because of capacity problems and was unable to push the sales of the model to a new level. This year’s S7 edge as been favorable, far more than its sales flat screen version.

In summary, if the screen version of the Samsung hyperbolic enabled only on Galaxy S8, things will be even more interesting.
